Sharon Shewmake won the race for State Representative Position #2 for the 42nd legislative district race. “This win belongs to all of us to who campaigned across Whatcom County this summer and fall - I am immensely grateful for the community’s support and the many volunteers who turned out day after day”, said Representative-Elect Shewmake.
Representative-Elect Shewmake is looking forward to heading to Olympia to fight for the people of Whatcom County. She will concentrate on the issues she focussed on throughout the campaign: protecting our environment, high-quality early childhood education, affordable housing and healthcare, and access to water in Whatcom County.
“I’m honored by the trust the voters of the 42nd have placed in me, together we have an opportunity to make Whatcom County and Washington State a better place to build a family, make a career, and enjoy our beautiful environment”, said Representative-Elect Shewmake.
This was Representative-Elect Shewmake’s first time running for elected office. She is a professor of economics at Western Washington University, a children’s book author, a spouse, and a mom.
